Empowering Change Through Music Events

Neil Lafferty founded the perfect vibe in 1985, bringing his lifelong passion for music to life.

Originally from Donegal, Neil moved to Aldershot – home of the British Army and various Para regiments – with his older brother Daniel in 1964. Their father, Patrick Michael Lafferty, found work in the building industry there after opportunities in Ireland became scarce. Together with their mother, Kathleen Bernadette Doherty, the family began a new chapter in England.

Growing up, Neil immersed himself in the vibrant South London soul scene, where his love of music was shaped by broadcasting legends such as Steve Walsh, Greg Edwards, Tony Blackburn, and the late-night sounds of Kiss FM’s Dr Bob Jones. Neil developed a taste for acid jazz and Latin Brazilian fusion beats, with Chris Brown (of Frenchies and Tuskers in Sandhurst) also leaving a lasting mark on his musical journey.

While South London remained a strong influence, Neil often followed Dr Bob to intimate back-room sets and legendary weekenders, drawing inspiration from iconic venues like The Wag Club, The Electric Ballroom, Dingwalls, and Jackson’s. Dr Bob’s sets often sparked record-buying sprees for Neil, who would record the Kiss FM shows, then track down and collect the very music he had just heard – fuelling a lifelong dedication to sharing the perfect vibe.

Today, Neil combines this deep-rooted love of music with a passion for making a positive difference. He organises events that not only get people dancing but also raise vital funds for charity – a mission summed up perfectly in his motto: “Getting Down and Giving Back.”
